Summary/Abstract: Hoarding disorder (HD) is defined by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual version 5 (DSM-5) as a persistent difficulty discarding or parting with possessions, regardless of the value others may attribute to them. HD raises public health concerns (e.g. squalor, dirtiness and bad odor) and frequently results in house/home evictions. Twenty four percent of all preventable fire fatalities occurred in hoarding households.
