Summary/Abstract: Recent home-based interventions have focused on improving relationships between parents and their young children in measurable ways, but these interventions have not often been implemented in rural areas where there may be greater psychosocial needs. When an attachment theory framework is used and the focus is on parental sensitivity, improvements in parent-child attachment security have been found, and these effects are relatively stronger when families are at high psychosocial risk and the intervention includes direct feedback on parent-child interactions. This paper reviews this literature, describes the development of such a program in a rural area of Eastern Canada, and presents preliminary data on initial families.
