Summary/Abstract: The following essay covers 25 years of dramaturgical experience from the perspective of a practicing dramaturg. It is a personal account of how a script is written, how a director and a dramaturg interact, and what criteria can be used to make an adaptation. It approaches some segments of the creative process through personal examples, looking at how a given space, a creative partner, or the needs of the audience can influence the creation of a production, while also attempting to define the very complex concept of dramaturgy.
