Summary/Abstract: According to the most widely accepted metaontological view, concrete objects, such as chairs, and abstract objects, such as numbers, exist in the same way, in spite of their differences. In other words, the way we determine ontological commitments should not depend on the type of objects that we are considering. This view, which we could call ontological monism, has been made prominent due to Willard van Orman Quine. A different view, ontological pluralism, endorsed by Kris McDaniel , proposes that objects exist in different ways. In this paper, I will present McDaniel’s pluralist views and consider some of the challenges raised against them.
