Summary/Abstract: The integration of Motion Capture (MoCap) technology and digital avatars into children’s theatre offers transformative potential for both artistic innovation and educational development. These technologies enable immersive, dynamic performances that captivate young audiences while introducing new forms of storytelling. However, they also present challenges regarding emotional manipulation and the erosion of authentic human connection. MoCap complicates the traditional actor-audience relationship, as digital avatars assume increasingly active roles in shaping the narrative. This article critically examines the role of MoCap and avatars in reshaping children’s theatre, drawing insights from two interviews with a theatre professional and a tech entrepreneur. The interviews explore the implications of these technologies on performance ownership, identity, and the blurred boundaries between human and digital expression. Additionally, the paper discusses how the integration of MoCap into educational environments is essential for preparing actors and audiences to engage responsibly with these innovations. Ultimately, the article argues for a balance between creative exploration, ethical considerations, and the critical engagement of both performers and spectators in a digitally evolving theatrical landscape.
