Summary/Abstract: This article aims to present the concept of "responsibility" in the view of Lex Rhodia - one of the first collections of regulations and laws regarding maritime law, incorporated in Roman law. In this sense, the article proposes a double approach to the subject through a historiographical and structural perspective. The first section of the article will deal with the historiographical perspective on the Lex Rhodia – tracing the hypotheses regarding its origin. The second section addresses the Lex Rhodia view of the concept of "liability". The third section will discuss the direct influences on the Lex Rhodia – additions made over time to the original version by Roman jurists – as well as its indirect manifestations – its expansion into other areas of law, as well as its use as a basis for other works legal regarding maritime law. The penultimate section presents the criticism of the two perspectives – historiographical and structuralist, and in the concluding section the overall picture of the entire issue will be described.
