Summary/Abstract: The article examines the theme of patriotism in Aziza Jafarzadeh’s novels Vatana Gayıt (Return to the Homeland) and Baku-1501, written by one of the pioneering female authors of historical novels in Azerbaijani literature. In these works, Jafarzadeh delves deeply into historical and social events, presenting the concept of homeland not merely as a geographical belonging but also as a cultural and emotional connection. In Vatana Gayıt, she highlights patriotism and freedom through the life of 18th-century Shirvan poet Nishat Shirvani. Nishat Shirvani’s devotion to his homeland and his struggles as a literary and social figure stand as central themes in the novel. On the other hand, Baku-1501 emphasizes the unification of Azerbaijan during Shah Ismail Khatai’s establishment of the Safavid State. Despite the pressures of the Soviet era, Jafarzadeh skillfully portrayed historical realities within the context of social truths, powerfully addressing the themes of preserving national identity and loyalty to the homeland in her works.
