Summary/Abstract: The DSM-5 Self-Rated Level 1 Cross-Cutting Symptom Measure (DSM-5 Self-Rated Level 1 Cross-Cutting Symptom Measure, Bastiaens & Galus, 2018) is a brief instrument that is used by clinicians for the dimensional assessment of psychopathology. Due to its effectiveness, it could also be used as a screening tool to analyze different symptoms in normal clients. This is the reason why its adaptation for the Bulgarian sample is an essential research task. The present adaptation of the instrument was carried out in a sample of 1201 participants between the ages of 18 and 55, students at over 30 universities across the country. Exploratory factor analysis confirmed the presence of four main factors – Depression, Anxiety, Mania and Psychosis, with a satisfactory level of reliability. The results from stepwise regression analyses show that some aspects of the Big Five (The Big-Five Trait Taxonomy, John & Srivastava, 1999) have predictive value for the scales of the Screening for first-level psychopathology. The Neuroticism scale significantly predicts Depression, Anxiety, and Psychosis, and the Openness to Experience scale predicts Mania. Univariate analyses of variance conducted showed age differences, with subjects over 30 years of age showing the lowest values on all four variables examined.
