Summary/Abstract: This study analyses the advantages and disadvantages of the holographic will, a solemn act by which the testator disposes, for the time of his death, of all or part of his patrimony. Although it does not require the fulfilment of any special formalities, the holographic will is a solemn act, as it is necessary that it be written by the testator, dated and signed by the testator's hand. Our analysis reveals the way in which the notary public can ensure these legislative requirements. Last but not least, we would like to present the role of the notary public, in the procedure of opening the holographic will. The study concludes that the notary public contributes to the correct interpretation of the will and to the removal of some disadvantages specific to this testament.
