Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the activities of the German special courts in Chełm andZamość between 1940 and 1944. It discusses their system, organisation, and their staff.Based on archival material and the occupation press in the General Government, the articlepresents the court rulings, preserved in small numbers. Next, basic statistics are offered,and the number of persons sentenced to death is calculated. The fi nal section describes theevacuation of the German judiciary from Chełm. The text is descriptive and based on sourcesthat historians have not used so far.
