„MY“ CZECHIA: LOVE – POLITICS – LANGUAGE/LITERATURE

Summary/Abstract: The text contains the memories of the author about his "meeting" with Czech literature, stimulating an interest in the Czech country and culture, as well as the correspondence with a certain representative of the Czech people (the out- of-sight love). Shared is the memory of the clash between personal and "big" history (the impossible love after 1968). Particular attention is given to the role of writers such as A.Jirásek, K.Čapek, and J.Hašek in shaping the author (especially the life- saving role of Hašek 's novel about Švejk in the army). Noted are the roles of the Czech Cultural Center and the specialization of the author in the Czech Republic in improving his knowledge of the Czech language and Czech literature, mentioning his personal efforts in popularizing the Czech language and literature as a university lecturer.
