Summary/Abstract: The article is dedicated to the short stories of Jiří Paděvet, which reveals the role of literature in the reconstruction of historical memory. In the context of recent Czech literature, Padévet's work stands as a counterpoint to the tendencies to detach literature from socio-political issues and recalls its responsibility to defend humanity. Beyond its thematic concerns, Padévet's fiction attracts attention for its original narrative strategy, combining artistic and journalistic discourse. The different levels of external and internal intratextuality, as well as paratextuality, through which the semiosis is realized, are outlined.
