Summary/Abstract: This article proposes a close reading approach to the most consistent of the early fiction of the writer Monica Lovinescu (1923-2008). Known more as a militant exponent of the Romanian exile after World War II, Monica Lovinescu is the author of an impressive memoir, but her literary work from her formative years is more often known by specialists than by the general public. The reading of the short novel În contratimp (1945) in the context of the times is also based on her own confessions about her passion for theatre and the artistic environment she attended in the final period of her university studies, when the text was written. The correlation of her biographical details with the profile of one of the novel's characters allows us to formulate the conclusion of an autobiographical text.
