Reliability of municipal seal drawings in an eighteenth-century manuscript entitled Apparatus Sigillorum Pomeraniae et Rugiae Civitatum

Summary/Abstract: The article raises the reliability of town seals’ drawings presented in an eighteenth-century manuscriptentitled Apparatus Sigillorum Pomeraniae et Rugiae Civitatum held at the State Archive of Greifswald. Thedrawings of seals shown there were compared with reproductions of the same seals preserved in the archivalcollections. In this way, it was possible to verify 158 of the 227 seal impressions positively. The accompanyingcatalogue shows the 69 remaining seals that could not be verifi ed based on the available archival material.
