Summary/Abstract: In this study, the author aims to analyse how Teodor Corbea, a erudite from Transylvania of the late 17th and early 18th centuries, presents Romanian equivalents which belong to Latin adjectives derived by adding the suffix -bilis. Our attention is focused on this type of adjective because, in the economy of the dictionary already mentioned, their number is relatively significant, and the options for their interpretation are among the most diverse. Teodor Corbea proves his erudition and detailed knowledge of the Romanian language from the various corners of the regions inhabited by Romanian people. The analysis of language facts is mainly lexical, but the author does not exclude other approaches. To support his investigative approach, after having presented the historical and cultural framework of that time, the author aims to make a detailed list of these derivatives and then describe them in detail to reveal certain structural or lexico-semantic peculiarities and to illustrate the richness of the Romanian synonymy. A punctual, detailed investigation, such as the current one, undoubtedly allows a better delimitation of the particularities of the old language, facilitating a much more adequate relationship with similar linguistic facts present in other writings of that time or of the following centuries, which helps us to understand, in an adequate manner, the disappearance or appearance of other lexical forms over time.
