Summary/Abstract: Aurel Stroe was strongly influenced by the personality and writings of Alain Daniélou, famous musicologist whom he met at the Institute of Comparative Musicology in Berlin. Alain Daniélou (1907 – 1994) was one of the great French musicologists, preoccupied by musical alternatives to the moderate European system: he lived decades within the system that he subsequently described in detail in his Treaty, he converted to Hinduism – as a sign of rebellion against the belief held by his mother, who was attached to Catholicism. After the period 1932–1960 he lived and taught in India, in 1945 he even became a music teacher; he studied deep concepts relating to philosophy, linguistics, the Indian instruments and theoretical systems. But his European destiny would resume after 1960 (in 1959 he published his Treaty of Comparative Musicology), when Aurel Stroe had the opportunity to explore Daniélou’s musical concepts and to transpose them in his music.
