Summary/Abstract: In the present study, the man of letter Peter Chernorizets is identified with a Bulgarian diplomat and writer from the 9th century, who was appointed as a comit, chergubilya and “great curator of the archon of Bulgaria Boris-Mihail”. In the summer of 866, the envoy Peter was sent to Rome with 115 questions to Pope Nicholas I and again he personally brought to Bulgaria the famous “Responses of Pope Nicholas I to the questions of the Bulgarians”, interpreting them together with other boìls before the ruler. Later, as a monk (Chernorizets), he wrote words and teachings that have no equivalents in Greek, but have textual borrowings from the “Responses of Pope Nicholas Ι to the questions of the Bulgarians” A.D. 866.
