Summary/Abstract: What is the purpose of traveling to Venice today, and what motivated the travellers of the 20th century? To what extent can the popularity of Venice be traced back to a general image awaiting manifestation in the form of a visible city – as an image carries emotional significance and evokes a desire for connection? This study explores this general image within 20th and 21st-century literary works, ranging from Dezső Kosztolányi to Éva Bánki.
