Summary/Abstract: This publication aims to review the reception of the Lebanese American poet Jibran Kahlil Jibran’s work (better known as Kahlil Jibran) in Bulgaria, focusing more narrowly on his famous poetic collection “The Prophet”. The prerequisites for the selection and translation of Arabic literature into Bulgarian, as well as an analysis of “The Prophet” and its reception in the USA, will constitute a contextual background. The exposition presents materials illustrating the distinctive place occupied by Kahlil Jibran, which will be examined in relation to world Middle Eastern literature among Bulgarian critics and readers. The aforementioned materials include academic works as well as opinions published in specialized publications, periodicals, online reading platforms and social networks, along with various artforms inspired by “The Prophet” that have reached the Bulgarian public. The study provides a brief overview of translation-related challenges as well as other linguistic issues arising from Jibran’s use of two languages, namely Arabic and English, to create his works.
