Summary/Abstract: The article presents a detailed biographic note of an exceptional officer of sap-pers, Major Ludwik Napoleon Siemiński, a defender of the borders of the SecondRepublic of Poland, who then suffered a martyr’s death in Katyń. The content ofthe article treats chronologically about his difficult childhood, progress he madein his civilian and military education, as well as presents the successive stages ofhis career in the military service for the Prussian and Polish armies. Thanks to theauthor’s contacts with members of Maj Siemiński’s family, he was able to use uniquephotographs remaining in the possession of the family, which enrich the contentof the article. Moreover, it is not only official archival documents and availablestudies that the author made use of, but also unpublished memoirs written by MajSiemiński’s daughter. A considerable part of the article is devoted to the KatyńCrime and the final part includes, apart from a presentation of commemorativeitems with reference to the title hero, a list of the Major’s awards and orders whichhe had collected throughout his life.
