Summary/Abstract: This study represents an analysis of the production of Romanian ethnicity through community celebrations organized by Banateana–Vasile Alecsandri, one of the first fraternal societies established by the Romanian immigrants to the United States in Philadelphia. The study aims to examine the collective identity-forging potential of ethnic celebrations, by considering the significance of language and social interaction in the construction, enactment and performance of the Romanian ethnicity in the United States.
