Summary/Abstract: The Synod summoned by Empress Maria Theresa with the apostolic blessing of Pope Clement XIV was attended by a delegation of four Transylvanians led by Archbishop Grigore Maior (appointed in 1772, he received the papal confirmation in March 1773, the investiture taking place on 4 May 1773 in Vienna). The article highlights the contribution of the Transylvanian bishop to the Synod’s decisions in regard to Filioque and to the mentioning of the pope during mass, as well as the consequences of the Vienna Synod upon the Romanian Greek Catholic Church.
