Summary/Abstract: The Francophony is a concept that defines a much broader aspect than French-speaking countries. Francophony is a fact, characterized by the respect and the appetite for culture, for art, for good taste. The values of the francophony are language and culture. Romanian culture of the early twentieth century is essentially oriented towards the French model. Painters as Ion Grigorescu, Ion Andreescu, Camil Ressu, Ştefan Luchian, Radu Drăgoescu and others attended the Julian Academy in Paris. Romanian artists were part of the artistic colonies of Barbizon. Returning to Romania with modern artistic concepts inspired by their education, have created original works. Today artists as Constantin Brâncuşi, Daniel Spoerri or Andrei Cădere are present in collections and permanent exhibitions of famous museums, such as the Centre Pompidou and they represent cultural values of an universal heritage. Born in Romania, perfected and recognized in France, this type of artists belonging to the francophone cultural identity are situated in an area for which the country of origin or the place of expression are only details. This study aims to represent a particular view of a dynasty of Romanian artists, francophones and francophiles, who have firm contributed in shaping modern and contemporary Romanian art. Dynasty Drăgoescu pursued over three generations, is composed of Aida Petrarian, painter and creator of puppets, Radu Drăgoescu, artist painter and Şerbana Drăgoescu, textile artist. They are an example of a family of artists with values adherents to the francophony. They have lived and created in times of modern, communist and contemporary Romania. The quality of education received by Radu Drăgoescu at the Julien Academy in Paris, the overflowing audacity (boldness) and originality shown by Şerbana Drăgoescu, daughter of painter and the toughness and critical playfulness present by Aida Petrarian mother of Radu Drăgoescu, are particular elements that define today's Romanian art. The verticality resistance towards culture kept in the period of the hard years of communism was for these artists joy and truth. What were the reasons for their existence and resistance through art? How was perceived a family oriented throught francophony in communist Romania? How did they managed to transmit cultural values acquired in the time of parisian art education? To what extent they influenced the artistic trajectory, ideas and style of Şerbana Drăgoescu, the youngest member of the family, which is today one of the most important figures of Romanian contemporary art? The purpose of this cultural study is to analyze the relations that define the link between traditional and modern aspects belonging to the works of these three artists.
