Summary/Abstract: The article records refl ections of a musician (a pianist), describing an intel-lectual and emotional journey through the history of European music, the par-ticular periods of its development with their characteristic styles, in search ofwhat appears timeless in this music and what constitutes the common goodfor all people sensitive to different manifestations of beauty. The author alsoattempts to compile a subjective catalogue of eminent representatives of the artof sound and their achievements.
