Summary/Abstract: According to R.Rohner’s Interpersonal Acceptance-Rejection Theory (IPARTheory), perceived parental rejection in childhood is likely to lead to a variety of negative consequences for children’s personal development as well as for their mental and physical health in later stages of development. Many of the negative consequences might be long-term and persost into adulthood (Rohner, 2021). The aim of our study was to examine the relationship between perceived parental acceptance-rejection in childhood with interpersonal rejection sensitivity and psychological adjustment in adulthood. The sample consisted of 479 adults (79.3% female and 20.7% male), aged 17-77 years (M = 37.65, SD = 12.05). Most of the participants were with university degree, married or cohabiting, and working full-time. Methods: the Bulgarian adaptations of Parental Acceptance-Rejection Questionnaire/Control (PARQ/C, Adult, short form; Rohner, 2005): Mother version and Father version; Interpersonal Rejection Sensitivity Scale (IRSS; Rohner, et al., 2018) and Personality Assessment Questionnaire (PAQ, Adult; Rohner & Khaleque, 2005). Results indicated significant positive correlations between rejection sensitivity and perceived parental rejection on both the maternal (r=0.243, p<0.000) and paternal (r=0.276, p<0.000) part. As expected, analyses showed negative correlations between rejection sensitivity and participants’ psychological adjustment (r=-0.755, p<0.000). Gender and age differences were discussed. The results were commented within the framework of IPARTheory.
