Summary/Abstract: The article highlights the specifics of the Moldavian cinema during the Khrushchev Thaw on the example of the film “Man Follows the Sun”. Made in the style of French cinema of the 1960s, this film is considered one of the first Soviet New Wave creations. Based on archival sources, the paper analyzes the context of the appearance of the film, the scenes that directly refer to the Moldavian national values, and describes the reaction and subsequent pressure of the local communist party authorities on the filmmakers involved in the creation of the film. The conclusions come down to the fact that in excessive attempts to follow the communist party ideology, the authorities of the Moldavian SSR exerted irrational pressure on the film industry, thereby hindering its development and depriving it of the most talented filmmakers who were poached by the leading film studios of the USSR.
