Summary/Abstract: On April 6, 1941, the Axis powers invaded Yugoslavia. The serious defeat also marked the beginning of a harsher war: the insurgency against the occupying forces. In July, after the German attack on the Soviet Union, the Partisans Resistance started, led by Josip Broz, known as Tito. In 1943 the German General Staff planned a major offensive against Partisans. The operation Weiss began on January 20.
