Multilingualism of Poles in the village of Słoboda Raszków in Transnistria

Summary/Abstract: The Polish minority and the languages used in various spheres of communication are the subject of this work. Particular attention was paid to the use of language and/or languages in the family and neighborhood sphere of communication. Particular attention was paid to the use of language in the religious sphere. A lot of space was devoted to the language in which the respondents studied. The research results come from field studies that were carried out in 2019–2022. The official languages of Transnistria are: Russian, Ukrainian and Moldovan. The oldest generation taught at school in Ukrainian, because Ukrainian was the language of state administration, later generations of Poles were educated in Russian, similarly to today, students at the school in Słoboda-Raszków learn in Russian. Polish is present in the sphere of private prayers and is taught as a foreign language next to English.
