Summary/Abstract: In this article, based on archival materials and published works, the author analyzes attempts of the population to emigrate from the Khotyn Uyezd to the Far East and Siberia in 1894-1900. The main reasons for the emigration of the population were demographic processes that took place in the province in the first half of the 19th century, the Russian imperial administration’s policy of colonization and denationalization, the consequences of the agrarian reform of 1868, as well as frequent droughts, epidemics and tax increases. The imperial authorities practically did not interfere with the emigration of the population. The main condition was compliance with the relevant circulars and regulations.
