Summary/Abstract: Armed crimes have been present in the criminal law of Hungary for a long time, however their existence was not substantial without having codified criminal law. During the late 18th century when the first codification took place, armed crimes and crimes committed with various tools were introduced properly and during the 18th century their relevance has arisen which resulted in more and more crimes having the qualification of ‘armed’ or any similar qualifications. The codification attempts of 1795, 1827, 1843/44, 1868/69, 1873, 1875 clearly had different approaches towards these qualifications and when finally the first criminal code was accepted in 1878 along with the regulation of offences in 1879 these qualifications found their place within the criminal legal system. The review of the Latin and Hungarian original texts provided an opportunity to understand the legislation behind these qualifications which do exist in the modern criminal law of Hungary as well.
