Summary/Abstract: This article considers steps taken to combat trafficking in children in Hungary and Romania in the context of two new realities: a) ongoing conflict in Ukraine and b) the rise of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) as a tool of traffickers. Briefly outlining the global context of trafficking in persons, the article then looks at trafficking in children within Hungary and Romania and recent actions taken by Hungarian and Romanian authorities to strengthen their response to this crime. Acknowledging that positive steps have been taken, the article concludes that there is still more to be done to decrease children’s vulnerability to trafficking and to ensure that child trafficking is effectively investigated and prosecuted.
