Summary/Abstract: The present study presents itself as an incursion into the history of the Synod of Iasi (1642) from the unfolding of the event itself to the consequences of the decisions taken. As I pointed out in this study, the importance of the Iasi Synod shows the fact that all three major branches of Eastern Orthodoxy participating, Greek, Romanian and Russian, brought to the Council not only bishops, but also competent theologians, recognized beyond the borders of the country their origin. From this perspective, the Synod of Iasi shows full commitment and international cooperation in the defense and exposure of the Orthodox faith in a complex socio-political context and in a tense inter-confessional climate, that of 17th century Europe.Another aspect that gives weight to the event is the co-opting of several church institutions: theological schools and monasteries, which, together with the hierarchs, have shown lucidity and the assumption of a major responsibility in the defense and exposure of the Orthodox faith. Without close inter-Church collaboration, the optimal solution could not be found to solve the indicated ambiguities, but, more importantly, the lack of cohesion and action between church institutions would have created a bad image of Orthodoxy in the face of aggressive Catholic and Protestant proselytism.
