Summary/Abstract: The analysis of the ground stone material (15 pieces resulted from the 2019 and 2021 systematic archaeological excavations at Tărtăria - Gura Luncii, Alba County, Romania) revealed a new image regarding the technical behaviors and the socio-economic landscape within the neo-Eneolithic human settlements/communities, that developed in today’s area of the Middle Mureș Valley. Residues, use-wear aspects and hafting traces, analysed and determined both microscopically/macroscopically, allowed a realistic functional framing of the pieces that make up the ground stone assemblage. Aspects regarding the archaeological context and the raw materials, demonstrated that we are dealing mostly with local rocks (found in riverbeds and riverbanks) washed away from their original source (Metaliferi and Trascău Mountains) by the main tributaries of the Mureș River (Ampoi, Blandiana, Stânișoara etc.).
