Summary/Abstract: The Kanun is a complex set of legal norms that has been preserved to the present day through structures that ensured adherence and punished violations. However, today, these structures no longer exist because the Kanun was characteristic of closed societies. As a result, its implementation has become distorted, and some elements have been preserved in an altered form. The Kanun reflects the legal systems of past times, such as the Byzantine, Roman, and Greek codes, leading to the conclusion that it was not a comprehensive set of popular legal norms but rather a collection of isolated constitutional elements. On one hand, the Kanun can be seen as a liberating element, showing that society was organized in some form. However, what is problematic now is the imposition of the Kanun in modern times when the rule of law is already established.
