Summary/Abstract: A topic of priority interest in the contemporary modern period, migration anchors the individual in two identity directions. On the one hand, he tries to define himself in relation to the new homeland, but he is still connected in his mind to the homeland left behind. On the other hand, the definition of identity articulates, subjectively and complexly, the problematic of the self - the individual, lost in a foreign society that he claims as his new homeland, feels the acute need to preserve or rediscover the deep self. In the present study, we aim to explore the meanings of the phenomenon of identity, following the course of the characters in the novel "Jacob decides to love" and the attempt to overcome the identity crisis, to recover one's own identity in order to define oneself, by returning to oneself , in an "imaginary" homeland, which he rebuilds by appealing to subjective memories and to his own attempts to resist as an individual in the face of the avalanche of history.
