Summary/Abstract: The following paper centers itself on depressive realism, rooted in psychological and psychoanalytic studies, which presents as a pessimistic worldview where life is seen as inherently negative. This perspective is often characterized by feelings of emptiness, nihilism, and a general sense of despair. Bogdan Coșa's " Cât de aproape sunt ploile reci " reflects the trend of depressive realism in contemporary Romanian literature. Through bleak depictions of rural life, the novel explores characters grappling with trauma, isolation, and societal pressures. The novel's pessimistic tone and focus on the negative aspects of human existence align with the characteristics of depressive realism.
