Summary/Abstract: This paper tries to analyze¨ Llegó el tiempo de las cerezas¨, a novel written by Nativel Preciado, a Spanish contemporary woman writer. The interest of the paper centers on the main character, Carlota, an actress almost sixty years old, separated from her husband, who lives alone since her daughter left to make her own life. Carlota, who all her life lived in the world of art (her ex-husband is a director, her daughter tries to become an actress too) lives with fear and anxiety reflecting on getting old. What does it mean for a woman getting old? Is it more difficult for a woman than for a man to advance in age? Getting old is an irreversible process for everyone. We cannot fight or resist it. Carlotta explores and suffers from the physical changes in her body, which is understandable, she notices that she became invisible for the society. How to manage with the mentality stereotypes still preserved in our patriarchal society? To accept the passing of time is an individual adventure that Carlotta understands, finally accepting to live her own life by finding her peace in friendship and the illusion to become grandmother for the first time. She learns to enjoy the simple joys of life and that life is worth living in spite of its ephemeral trait.
