Summary/Abstract: The present study is devoted to the dynamics of development of viticulture in Bulgaria during the 2014-2022 period. An international comparison which includes the leading countries worldwide has been made as well. The aim is to establish the state and development of viticulture and its prospects through the prism of the available prerequisites and the formed competition in global markets. Favorable natural, scientific and personnel conditions have been established, as well as rich traditions. The relative share of the harvested areas is strikingly low, which hides opportunities to increase the amount of harvested grapes without significantly increasing the area of the vineyards. There is a developed regulatory framework, the implementation of which would contribute to the prosperity of the sector and ensure the sustainable development of the semi-mountainous regions that are suitable for growing vineyards.
