Summary/Abstract: The article is part of a more comprehensive study of commercial names in the urban linguistic space. Basic mechanisms of creating informal names such as ellipsis, where long formal names are shortened to achieve more convenient and easily understood forms, are examined. Emphasis is placed on the importance of this type of names not only as reference points in the urban space, but also as means of effective communication that support social dynamics and interaction between people.
