Summary/Abstract: Some people who live with pets, dogs, cats, parrots or other species, consider them to be true family members. Unfortunately, the law does not give them the same legal status. In the vast majority of legal systems, animals are considered goods, objects of property rights. However, this does not prevent their owners from treating them as more than simple objects, loving them as much as their children, giving them care, food, shelter. That is why, when families break up and their members cannot agree on the fate of their pets, the only option proposed by the Romanian legislator is to follow the procedure of sharing the common assets.
