Summary/Abstract: Cybersecurity represents the security of information systems and data and is one of the major challenges for all information and operational systems and networks on ships. Its purpose is to ensure the protection of the information resources with which they operate by reducing the risk to acceptable levels. Nowadays shipping uses systems that rely on automation, digitalization, integration and require cybersecurity management on board. Information technology (IT) systems and those of operational technology (OT) on board of the ships are networked and are connected to the Internet as well. This increases the risk of unauthorized access and attacks on shipboard systems. Risks can also arise from the activities of personnel who have access to the systems on board through the use of malware.
