Summary/Abstract: In the Biebrza Valley, there are many different discourses about the environment, as well as conflicts related to different perceptions of the relationship between nature and man. Two of them are dominant: the discourse conducted by employees and experts of the National Park ("institutional") and the discourse of the dissatisfied residents ("agricultural"). They are talking about the same water only apparently, in fact in each of these narratives water has a different meaning and value, both material and emotional. The author reviews and analyzes contradictory positions, departing from the traditional relativism of knowledge in ethnography and opting for ecological expert knowledge as the one that offers the bigger chance of reversing the disastrous trends of the Anthropocene.
