Summary/Abstract: The article outlines the main mechanisms in the activities of state institutions, national and international civil society organisations for monitoring the needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs). A wide range of government institutions, as well as national and international civil society organisations, have been involved in the process of meeting the various needs of IDPs. Analytical centres and social research companies are currently operating in Ukraine, their mission being to accumulate methodologically sound, critical and reflexive knowledge about the problems of IDPs for activists of social movements, journalists, experts, politicians, researchers and the general public. These companies unite critically oriented social researchers (professional sociologists, political scientists, economists, historians and lawyers). Newly created analytical organisations go through complex stages of institutionalisation: forming a team, ensuring the stable functioning of the office, launching websites, fundraising (seeking donor support), developing strategic directions, and so on. In addition, many organisations have their own staff of professional sociologists. The main tasks carried out by the monitoring companies (collecting and analysing migration data, and measuring IDP integration) are clearly defined, since such sociological data are essential for drawing up and adopting strategies for helping IDPs.
