Summary/Abstract: Russia's attack on Ukraine on February 24, 2022 resulted in mass escapes from the attacked areas. Millions of people fled abroad and within half a year, i.e. from February 24, 2022 to September 2022, 6 million 366 thousand people arrived from Ukraine to Poland. All these people required various types of help - accommodation, food, medical and psychological support, etc. This resulted in mass mobilization of Polish society, which offered various types of help - financial, material, accommodation, and transport from the border. In the text, based on the analysis of data from over 50 interviews with people who were involved in this assistance, the author presents primarily the motivations for the assistance and the process of creating an ad hoc social assistance network both in big cities and in small towns.
