Analysis of Programmes in Comparative Studies of Film and Television Culture in the Polish People’s Republic

Summary/Abstract: Using two micro-studies as examples, the authors presentthe possibilities and limitations of conducting research onthe history of film and television using a database of pro-grammes. Both ‘case studies’ contain a comparative ele-ment. The first case study concerns cinema and comparesprogrammes from Łódź and Kraków in 1959, with a par-ticular focus on Bergman films that were released at thetime. The second, on the other hand, offers a comparativelook at the programmes of Polish Television in subsequentdecades, with an invitation to take a closer look at Christ-mas-time schedules. Each case study is preceded by a shorttheoretical introduction, presenting a mode of thinkingthat has not (yet) become widespread in Polish film studies.
