Summary/Abstract: The officers, educated at the Training Centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Legionowo, joined the ranks of the Security Service throughout Poland, becoming role models for their younger colleagues. In the period covered by this article, an important feature of training was indoctrination in the spirit of Marxism, but the most important were courses aimed at increasing general and specialised knowledge. The first type domi- nated during the 1950s and 1960s, when attempts were made to raise the generally low level of education of officers who began serving in the Stalinist period. Since around 1970, the qualifications of people joining the Security Service have improved, which necessi- tated changes in the teaching process. As a result, the training system for officers of the discussed formation, which was developed at the beginning of the communist regime in Poland, was thoroughly reformed in 1972.
