Summary/Abstract: The 19th century was a century in which changes and transformations took place in many areas. It can be seen that radical steps have been taken for modernization in this century. With the Tanzimat period, many genres that came from the West-theatre, stories, novels-gained a solid place in Turkish literature. However, it would be wrong to say that the story and the novel emerged suddenly. Before the genre of stories and novels spread, the public met their reading needs with genres such as folk tales, fairy tales and legends. In this regard, it can be said that as a result of the development and spread of novels and stories, traditional narratives have been replaced by these genres. In fictional texts such as stories and novels, writers often make use of traditional narrative products. In modern narratives, many elements of traditional narratives have changed and transformed over time and have been modernized. In this context, one of the modernized elements is motifs. It is seen that Sevinç Çokum, one of the important writers of Turkish literature, frequently includes motifs in traditional narratives in her stories and novels. In this study, it will be tried to determine how Sevinç Çokum uses motifs frequently encountered in folk tales, fairy tales, legends and beliefs in her novel Lacivert Taşı.
