Summary/Abstract: This study deals with the activity of the writer and officer Janko Jesenskýin Slovak Matica between the years of 1919–1945. His involvementhad many dimensions and the study focuses on three primary circuits:impact and activities of Jesenský in local departments of Slovak Matica,particularly in Rimavská Sobota, Nitra and Bratislava, to mediation,vocational skills, funds and contacts with other associations. Further thestudy brings Jesenský´s literary works published by Slovak Matica (facts,conditions and problems with publishing). Finally, it points out Jesenský´sefforts for career development within central bodies such as membershipin the Committee of Slovak Matica and the administration function of thisassociation.Against the background of these activities, the study clarifies the shapesof horizontal and vertical mobility in the cultural area of Slovakia. At thesame time, it tries to point out the complicated relationship between themostly conservative-orientated Slovak Matica and liberal-attached JankoJesenský and all differences of ideas between members, employees andfunctionaries, that they endured in this scientific, cultural and educationalinstitution for a long time.
