Summary/Abstract: From past to present, societies have preferred various ways to transmit their cultures. Initially, primarily through oral culture, and later through oral, written, and electronic culture, cultural transmission has mostly been achieved via folk literature products. While the entirety of folk literature products is important in facilitating this transmission, it is noteworthy that riddles hold a separate value within them. Riddles stand out from other forms of folk literature in terms of having fundamental characteristics like metaphorical language, being asked in certain patterns, and containing taboo words. The emergence of these characteristics of riddles, especially their survival from the mythical period and carrying beliefs and religious elements within them, occupies a significant place. Despite appearing to be a type based on a question-answer technique, riddles carry deep mythological-religious layers within them. The riddles of the Sakhas, who have a rich oral tradition, are seen as an important type related to belief systems due to the abundant material they contain. After presenting various researchers' views and definitions on the genre of riddles in this study, a general evaluation regarding the relationship between riddles and mythology was made. In the examination section of the study, which also informs about the traditional Sakha belief system, the reflections of the traditional beliefs of the Sakhas on riddles are discussed. The work includes a scan of the work named “Sakha Riddles” prepared by Sardana Platonovna Oyunskaya in 1975 for the detection of materials. The riddles identified related to our topic were transcribed into Latin letters and translated into Turkish. Examples subjected to classification according to their answers were examined based on their expressive meaning characteristics. Findings regarding the riddles were evaluated in the conclusion section.
