Summary/Abstract: The main causes of youth unemployment are a combination of structural, cyclical, and personal variables. Disparities in education and skill levels, insufficient employment prospects, and mismatches between job seekers and open positions are all structural concerns. Economic swings are linked to cyclical dynamics, with young people frequently being the most at risk during recessions. Individual factors include personal traits that affect employability, such as socioeconomic background, amount of education, and work experience. Youth unemployment has far-reaching effects that go beyond economic ones. Political instability, an uptick in crime, and social discontent can result from high rates of youth unemployment. On a personal level, it may lead to mental health problems, a delay in job advancement, and a reduction in lifetime earning potential. Societies run the risk of losing a youthful talent generation, which would impede future economic development and prosperity. A broad approach combining short-term and long-term solutions is necessary to address adolescent unemployment. For immediate help for unemployed young people, short-term interventions include targeted job creation programs, pay subsidies and skill development efforts. Long-term plans emphasize entrepreneurship development, labour market flexibility, and reforms to education and training. Interventions in policy should also address issues like discrimination and financial access that are obstacles to employment.
